The Grand Sweep

Congratulations and thank you to everyone who joined us on this year long journey through God’s Word!  In 2011 we read through the entire Bible, Genesis to Revelation, together as a congregation and community.  It was an ambitious goal but a God-pleasing one.

A big THANK YOU to Brian Hinkley and Warren Morrow who created the Grand Sweep blog! With this blog, participants interacted with the Word and each other each week as Pastor Dave posted commentary surrounding the assigned readings.

Here are reflections of a few of the participants

“The Grand Sweep was a really good experience. I decided to try it on my own, at home, and not meet with the group at church. Had I joined the group, I would have learned much more. I also found it more difficult than I had thought it would be to keep up with the reading. Even though I fell behind frequently, there still was a feeling of accomplishment and I felt somewhat proud that I was trying. My hope is that I can begin again and re-read the Bible, using the Grand Sweep guide. Thanks to Pastor Dave for this opportunity.”

Elizabeth Dean Schultz

“I don’t think I understood the miracle of God sending his only son to die for our sins until I sat down and thought through the Bible. I was so amazed at how this reading broadened my perspective of my faith, that I’ve started again. This year I’m actually using my study Bible’s recommended reading schedule and in just six weeks I’ve been amazed again at what I can learn.”

Michelle Paxson

“For me the experience was awesome. Reading the Bible as part of the Grand Sweep gave me a spiritual connection I’ve never had that lasted from week to week. I looked forward to Sundays to hear the sermon and how it related to what we read. Of course it created a lot of questions for me and that will feed my spirit’s desire well into the future.”
